Calculus at Excelsior Academy
Course Overview
Using Dr. Mitch Stokes’ Calculus for Everyone, our students master authentic calculus built simply on an Algebra 1 foundation. This welcoming course bridges the gap between liberal arts and sciences, inviting your child to discover God’s beautifully ordered world through the lens of mathematics.
Who This Course Is For
This course is designed for students who have completed Algebra 1, welcoming both those who enjoy math and those who approach it with hesitation. Through careful, guided study, students will grow in clarity and confidence as they encounter the big ideas of calculus.

Here, calculus is not treated as an abstract hurdle, but as a window into the order of creation—revealing, with striking clarity, the patterns and precision by which God has shaped the world.
What Students and Parents are Saying
Calculus has probably been my favorite class this year (shh don't tell my other teachers :) and definitely the most challenging in the best way. I love how Mr. Jansen can teach to all the different levels in our class, making it easy for everyone to understand and giving the math people extra fun stuff like finding the formula for the double derivative.
Leah Johnson
Mr. Jansen's Logic and Rhetoric class has been my favourite class this year because it is always extremely thought-provoking and interactive.
Natalya Bickford
"Learning calculus here was rigorous, but my teacher made every derivative and integral feel like a step closer to understanding the language of nature. It's a tough course, but well worth the effort for any serious student."
